New Classes for Summer 2025
Mountain Prairie School will be holding a middle school summer homesteading course in June and July of 2025, with possible extension into August and beyond for homeschooling families.
This course is for families interested in having their children experience farm work, farm projects, gardening, harvesting, skills from frontier/homesteading times, canning, bread making, etc.
Academic work is included, keeping academic skills sharp during the summer months. Science, literature, and composition/publishing will be part of your child's experience. Projects will include math applications.

6th-8th grade
(or children who can handle academic work and behavioral requirements of these grades)*
SCHEDULE:
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9am-1pm.
(This timeframe includes a lunch break. Students bring their own lunches but will be eating from the gardens, bread they make, and other homestead harvest food.)
LOCATION:
Genola, Utah County
Our home is 5-7 minutes from I-15, through Santaquin.
NUMBER OF STUDENTS:
Minimum 5, maximum 10
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Our property sits on a 2.5 acre homestead with animals that include milking goats, sheep, pigs, and chickens.
Our fruit yard and orchards include berries, grapes, and various fruit trees. Garden spaces are large and include medicinal herbs and vegetables of all kinds. All plants will be able to be harvested, planted, and cared for by the students.
A large play yard with equipment is available for games and free play.
Students will meet in The Summer Kitchen, a cabin-like extension to our home with access to the gardens and animal areas.
A wood burning cook stove, canning areas, and ample space for desks and chairs is offered in The Summer Kitchen. Windows on all sides allow for natural light and ability to see the property. With doors on every side, access to the outdoors is easy.
Learning Overview:
Classes will include a short instruction/check-in time in The Summer Kitchen. A lesson will be taught on the subject for the day. Afterward, we will proceed with activities, garden work, and harvesting that apply to the lesson. The day will finish out with lunch/social time, academic follow-up, assignments, other activities, and outside game/play time as possible.

$250 per student, per month

* This experience requires the student to have the ability to pay attention, follow directions, obey rules, and listen carefully to instructions.
Tools, animals, tender plants, and other living and non-living things require students respect all rules regarding them.
If your student struggles with any of these issues, please consider a different experience for them.
